John Mullin

John Mullin was born in County Cork, Ireland about 1820. It is not known when he arrived in the United States, but it was before 1850. It is not known when or where he first married, but he had a daughter Ellen Mullin before 1850 by that first wife. It is possible the wife was Eleanor McKenna, but this is pure speculation. Apparently the first Mrs. Mullin died and in 1851 John married Mary Maher. They had four children: Edward born 1854 in Baltimore, Maryland who married Kate Foos; Rose Mullin born about 1856 in Baltimore who married Mr. O'Brien; Mary T. Mullin born in 1860 who married Mark Killalea; and Julia Mullin born about 1861 who married John Lannon. We do not when John Mullin died but he is missing from the 1870s census. His wife Mary died in 1891. Any information about John Mullin would be greatly appreciated.

Matthew Rall

Matthew Rall was born between 1805 and 1812 in County Cavan, Ireland. He emigrated to the United States, possibly due to the famine in Co. Cavan in the mid-1840s. He left behind his betrothed, the nearly 30 year younger Mary "Bridget" Allwell and promised to send for her when he made his fortune. Before 1856 Matthew Rall had made enough money to send for Bridget by working at the Harley Bottling Works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They married and settled in West Chester, Pennsylvania where daughter Susanna A. Rall was born in 1856. In 1861 Matthew and Bridget had a second daughter, Mary A. Rall. Bridget Allwell Rall died between 1870 and 1880. Daughter Susie left home by 1880 and was the governess for the Alexander Graham Bell family. Daughter Mary married John Doland after 1880. In 1882 Matthew Rall declared his intent to become a citizen of the US in Philadelphia. By 1886 he was living with his daughter Susie and her husband Herman Hesen in Keyser, West Virginia. The entire family moved to Oakland, Maryland about 1888 and Matthew Rall died there in 1889. If you know anything about Matthew Rall or his family, please let us hear from you.
